Doing What You Do Best

October 16, 2009

There’s no scarcity of opportunity to make a living at what you love.  There’s only a scarcity of resolve to make it happen.
(Dr Wayne Dyer)

I’m having so much fun.  After months of scoffing at the absurdity of joining a social network that affords its members a mere 140 characters to say anything worthwhile, I’ve leaped into the weird world of Twitter.

After the initial confusion caused by trying to interpret the strangely compressed forms of communication that exist in tweet-lish, my first thoughts were that it’s just like writing haiku.  It really is.  And then no need for silly compressions of words and phrases.  Perfect economy of expression and precision is possible, when treated with an artful mind.

Hey, I’m not saying that all my tweets have been beautiful so far.
and really, surely, whatever anyone else says, the whole point is to get people to notice you and come visit your blog/website/space.  But for me, there’s a sense of challenge to this new effort.  can I get my voice and my writing style across in so few words?  I think I can.

And I have discovered a greater joy that Twitter can give me: daily inspirations from the fingers and minds of my two favourite spiritual gurus, Wayne Dyer and Deepak Chopra.  There may be plenty of dross on the tweet-waves, but there are some amazingly, awesomely, beautiful gems too.  I might get tempted to just keep posting them here.  But then that would be daft.  You can go look on Twitsville yourself.

The one I’ve chosen today seemed perfect for me,
and for many of my friends around here:~
making a living at what you love ….
don’t give up
don’t ever give up
hope
positive expectation
belief
perseverance
resolve

When I’m feeling strong about my dreams,
I have this little mantra that runs around in my head,
“galvanized and resolute”
it goes repeat, ad infinitum.
when it’s playing, I know I am achieving.
I am there.  galvanized.  resolute.
